VGF Building Make Over

The building of the VGF Day Care Centre has been painted and decorated and now looks finished and neat. Now we are busy watering all the newly planted plants and small trees, which are called "Chedi" in Tamil. Since recently the climate is very dry and there wasn't any rain for a long time, the plants need a lot of special care.

For our children this entire week was Mattu Pongal holiday, which is a big Hindu festival in Tamil Nadu. Especially in the nearby villages like Kongarapatti it was very interesting for Helga and me to watch the Hindu rituals and traditions for Pongal. On that day all the animals except birds and especially cows ("Mattu" means cow) will be painted and decorated. All families will go out and cook together in the field. They will give the cow to eat and take sweet Pongal rice for themselves. Unfortunately we could not take tea on our trip through the villages, because most of the shops were closed, but Mercy made the sweet rice also for us at VGF later. So we were able to see a little bit of Hindu culture that day.

From Monday on for the Seniors and from Tuesday on for all children school and day care centre start again.
