VGF Building Make Over

The building of the VGF Day Care Centre has been painted and decorated and now looks finished and neat. Now we are busy watering all the newly planted plants and small trees, which are called "Chedi" in Tamil. Since recently the climate is very dry and there wasn't any rain for a long time, the plants need a lot of special care.

For our children this entire week was Mattu Pongal holiday, which is a big Hindu festival in Tamil Nadu. Especially in the nearby villages like Kongarapatti it was very interesting for Helga and me to watch the Hindu rituals and traditions for Pongal. On that day all the animals except birds and especially cows ("Mattu" means cow) will be painted and decorated. All families will go out and cook together in the field. They will give the cow to eat and take sweet Pongal rice for themselves. Unfortunately we could not take tea on our trip through the villages, because most of the shops were closed, but Mercy made the sweet rice also for us at VGF later. So we were able to see a little bit of Hindu culture that day.

From Monday on for the Seniors and from Tuesday on for all children school and day care centre start again.

Sponsor from Leipzig staying at VGF

Helga Mündel from Germany arrived at VGF one week ago to stay for three to four weeks in total. Starting from next week, she'll be traveling together with our Volunteer and return for another two weeks with the children. Helga is a sponsor and good friend of Edwin and his family. The children gave her a warm welcome when she arrived, and we are glad to have her with us.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

VGF wishes a joyful and blessed new year!

Lots of things happened at the project since the last entry, here is a small summary with photos for you as an update!

The campus was, in preparation for Christmas, decorated and more restoring work was done and now the VGF building looks like this:

The compund wall and gate were finished:

The Christmas Celebration with the Christmas Program took place at the Day Care Centre on 14. of December. The parents were also invited and the children performed danced, memory verses, songs and a small Christmas play. That day all of them got, thanks to our many precious sponsors, their new dresses, as well and delicious food was offered to all the guests.

On the 22nd of December, thus, we had the second Christmas Celebration in the Day Care Centre where Christmas gifts could be handed out to the children.

After that, the kids enjoyed their holidays. Yesterday, on the first of January the sponsors Mr. Richard and Mr. William made it possible to give away about 300 bed sheets for old village people. VGF and Team provided the snacks and there was a small gospel message by Edwin, too.

Today the new, last term started for our children and today was the fist day back at the Day Care Centre.
May 2014 be a blessed year for all of you!
